The 23-year-old gangrape victim, Damini, who was cremated on Sunday morning amid tight security, had marriage plans with her boyfriend.
According to reports, neighbours who attended her funeral said on Sunday that the murdered rape victim was to marry her boyfriend, who was also injured in the attack.
An agency report quoting Meena Rai, a woman who lived next to the 23-year-old medical student in Mahavir Enclave, said: "She was supposed to get married in February to the same guy who was attacked on the bus with her."
Meena said that she had been shopping with the unnamed victim a.k.a. 'Damini' for wedding outfits and the contents of a wedding box known as trousseau.
All the wedding preparations were made for a wedding party in Delhi, the report said quoting the woman in the victim's neighbourhood.
Another woman named Usha Rai, who was also present for the last rites, reportedly said that the medical student had planned to get married in February.
