KATHMANDU, JANUARY 22 - The first meeting of the second Constituent Assembly (CA) has convened today at the International Convention Centre (ICC), New Baneshwor. Acting CA Chairman and senior-most member of the assembly, 86-year-old Surya Bahadur Thapa chaired the meeting which had kicked off after Interim election council chair Khilaraj Regmi's announcement.
A two minute silence was observed at the start of the meeting in respect of the Martyrs. Inaugurating the meeting, acting C.A chair Thapa expressed his confidence on timely constitution delivery through the second CA. He also stressed that the leadership should exhibit unity and alertness for ending the existing political transition in the country. Byte...
The meeting also appointed seven CA members, including Man Bahadur Bishwokarma, Bidhya Devi Bhandari, JB Tuhure and Bikram Pandey, to chair the meeting in Thapa’s absence.The meeting also decided to conduct the CA meetings in line with the existing regulation until the new regulation is drafted.The next meeting has been slated for January 29 at 1 pm.
Expressing their views after the conclusion of the first meeting today, leaders of different political parties expressed commitment towards promulgating the constitution within 1 year saying they had learnt from past mistakes
