2 killed, scores injured in Okhaldunga bus mishap

OKHALDHUNGA, Nov 16: At least two persons died and over two dozen were injured in a bus accident at Kudule of Thulachhap VDC-6 in the district on Saturday morning.

The incident took place when a bus, Na 2 Kha 3211, heading to Nishankhe carrying passengers from Rumjatar of Okhaldhunga district  for election campaigns veered off the road and fell some 200 meters at Thulachhap VDC this morning.

One of the killed has been identified as assistant driver Krishna Katwal of Gairigaun VDC 1 while the other is yet to be ascertained.

Other 40 persons including UCPN (Maoist) of Okhaldhunga-1 candidate Keshav Rai and Central Committee member of the UCPN (Maoist) party Ram Karki have been injured in the incident, said Police Inspector Bhagirath Regmi.

Rai and Karki have sustained serious injuries to their heads and preparation is underway to airlift them to Kathmandu, said Central Committee member Balkrishna Dhungel.

The condition of the six injured including Ushak Katwal and Bibas BC is said to be critical. The injured are undergoing treatment at Community Hospital in Okhaldhunga district.
