US DV Lottery For 2016 Opens From October 1

The US government has announced opening of the DV 2016 starting from October 1 (9:45 pm local time in Nepal).

According to a press statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the application period for the DV visa lottery application lasts till November 3, 2014 (10:45 pm local time). “We strongly encourage DV program entrants to apply early,” said the statement.

The United States embassy has clarified that there is no fee involved to enter the Diversity Visa lottery.  “The United States Embassy recommends against using a consultant to assist you with your application.  Please consider using a family member, friend or other trusted person if you need assistance.  No matter who provides assistance, you are solely responsible for your own application,” the embassy has cautioned.

Applicants may access the electronic Diversity Visa entry form (E-Diversity Visa) at www.dvlottery.state.gov  during the registration period.

The statement said entries for the 2016 Diversity Visa lottery must be submitted electronically during the registration period. “When registering, it is imperative that you list your spouse and all of your unmarried children under the age of 21 at the time of application.

Submissions without the inclusion of family members will invalidate your entry,” added the statement. The applicants are advised to print and save their confirmation number after registering their application.

Stating that the number is the only way to check application status, the statement has asked the applicants not to give their confirmation number to anyone.  “The only method of determining whether you were selected for the Diversity Visa is by entering your confirmation number at www.dvlottery.state.gov on or after May 5, 2015,” it said.

Entrants must provide an e-mail address as part of their entry. However, there is no email notification sent to selectees informing them they were selected.

Connecting Nepal with ropes

Ropeways have long been recognised as an ideal mode of transportation in Nepal, but despite some pioneering projects the potential has never been fully developed. Until now.

Several tourism-related cable car projects are coming up in the next year in Pokhara, Butwal, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot, and two in Kathmandu.

“Considering Nepal’s topography and socio-economic conditions, ropeways are definitely feasible,” says Guna Raj Dhakal of the group, Ropeway Nepal set up by Nepali engineers to promote cable car projects in the country. “Building roads is six times more expensive than ropeways.”

The best known cable car system in Nepal is the one to Manakamana temple in Gorkha district. There have also been smaller ropeway projects to help farmers get their produce to market quicker.

However, attempts to start similar ventures at other shrines and mountain tops in the past decade have been delayed or abandoned due to problems with land acquisition, bureaucracy and local opposition.

But now several projects are getting ready to get off the ground. Construction has begun on a tourist cable car system from Thankot to the summit of Chandragiri (2,563m) at the western edge of Kathmandu Valley. When it is completed in June 2015, the 2.4 km cable car link will take tourists to a temple on top as well as offer spectacular views of Kathmandu and the mountains beyond.

The project includes a plan to construct a 100-room hotel designed by architect Arun Pant on the summit, a Shiva temple and an amusement park at the bottom station in Thankot. Equipment is being imported from Austria’s Doppelmayr company which was also used on Manakamana.

Another even more ambitious project is going to link Godavari to the top of Pulchoki, which at 2,672m is the highest point on the Kathmandu Valley rim. The project has got its final go-ahead from the government as well as the local authorities, and construction is expected to begin in December.

There are two other projects in Bhaktapur, one to the top of Sanga Hill and a smaller chair-lift project in Nagarkot. Designs for the Sanga cable car venture are complete and equipment from a Swiss company have been acquired, but local land compensation issues have delayed it.

Annapurna Cable Car, a joint venture between Himalayan Kanko Kaihatsu of Japan and Trans Himalayan Tour of Nepal plan to make a premium hotel on top of Sarangkot in Pokhara, famous for its sunrise views. Construction of the hotel and cable car is expected to start in January. Butwal is also planning a tourist-pilgrim cable car next year.

In addition, Ropeway Nepal is getting inquiries from villages across Nepal to build cargo and passenger ropeways to cross major rivers as well as to shrines and tourist spots. “There is a lot of interest from districts like Myagdi and Sindhuli,” says Dhakal, whose company designs and fabricates Nepali-made ropeway systems.

There have been cargo ropeways run by local communities linking Kirne to Bhotechhap for the Khimti Hydropower project and Darimchhaur to Khaira for the Jhimruk Project. There have also been successful small gravity ropeways in Gorkha, Tanahu and Sindhuli.

सर्पले डसेपछि यसरी कुहियो किशोरीको खुट्टा

 तस्वीर हेर्दा यो फोटोसपबाट तयार पारिएकेा जस्तो लाग्नसक्छ । तर यो फोटोसप गरिएको नक्कली तस्वीर होइन, एक किशोरीको खुट्टाको वास्तविक तस्वीर हो । सर्पको डसाइबाट चाउरिँदै, सुक्दै तथा कालो हुँदै गएको खुट्टाको यस्तो तस्वीर निकै डरलाग्दो देखिन्छ ।

भेनेजुयलाकी एक १३ वर्षीया किशोरीको खुट्टा यसरी सुक्दै र कुहिँदै गएको छ, सर्पको डसाइका कारण । विषालु सर्पले खुट्टामा डसेपछि उनको खुट्टाका तन्तुहरु मर्दै गएपछि खुट्टा यसरी सुक्दै, गल्दै तथा कालो हुँदै गएको छ ।

इन्टाग्राममा एक प्रयोगकर्ताले उनको यो तस्वीर पोष्ट गरेसँगै यसले निकै चर्चा पाएको छ । सर्पले डसेसँगै सुरुमा स्थानीय परम्परागत विधिबाट उपचार गराउन थाल्दा उनको यस्तो हालत भएको हो । परम्परागत औषधिको भर पर्दा खुट्टा सुक्न र कालो हुन थालेपछि एक महिनापछि ती किशोरीलाई राजधानी काराकासको अस्पतालमा भर्ना गरिएको थियो । तर त्यतिबेलासम्म ढिलो भैसकेको थियो र उनको उपचार सम्भव थिएन । डाक्टरहरुले उनको सुकेको र कुहिएको खुट्टा काटेर फ्याँक्नुको विकल्प नभएको बताएका छन् ।

सर्पको विष सरीरभर नै फैलिएकाले खुट्टा फ्याँकेपछि पनि जोखिम नटर्ने र ती किशोरीको ज्यान समेत जानसक्ने डाक्टरहरु बताउँछन् । विषकै कारण उनको जिउ समेत सुक्दै गएको हुँदा विस्तारै उनको ज्यानै गुम्ने डर छ ।

यसरी विषका कारण सरीरभरका मांसपेशी तथा अन्य तन्तुहरु मर्दै जाने प्रक्रियालाई राब्डोमायोलाइसिस भनिन्छ । यसले मृगौला लगायतका सरीरका अंगहरुमा प्रत्यक्ष असर पुराउँछ ।

गाइलाई लँगौटी लगाइदिएर किसानले गरे आन्दोलन

हामीकहाँ गाइ तथा भैँसीपालक किसानहरुले सडकमा दुध पोखेर आन्दोलन गर्ने गरेको सुनेका तथा देखेका छौँ । तर के तपाइँले गाइलाई लँगौटी लगाइदिएर किसानले आन्दोलन गरेको देखेको/सुन्नुभएको छ ? सायद छैन होला ।
जर्मनीका किसानले गाइलाई लँगौटी लगाइदिएर सरकार विरुद्ध आन्दोलन गरेका छन् । सरकारले ल्याएको कृषि मल नियमन गर्ने कानून विरुद्ध किसानले यस्तो अनौठो आन्दोलन गरेका हुन् ।
युरोपेली युनियनले ल्याएको नियम विरुद्ध गरेको उक्त विरोध प्रदर्शनमा एक जर्मन किसाले आफ्ना दुइ गाइको पछाडि पट्टि बडेमाका डाइपर लगाइदिएका थिए ।
मलमा पाइने नाइट्रेट तत्वका कारण जल प्रदुषण बढेको भन्दै युरोपेली युनियनले युनियन सम्बद्ध देशका लागि नियमनकारी कानून ल्याएको हो । जसका अनुसार माटोमा मलको ग्रेडियन्ट १५ भन्दा बढि हुनु हुँदैन । अर्थात् किसानहरुले आफ्नो कृषि भूमिमा बढि मल प्रयोग गर्न पाउनेछैनन् ।
यस्तो नियमले आफुहरुलाई कृषि उत्पादन बढाउन अवरोध पूराउने तथा भिरालो पाखाहरुमा खेतीपातीमा समेत रोक लगाउने भन्दै किसानहरुले चिन्ता व्यक्त गरेका छन् । सरकारले किसानलाई मल प्रयोगमा रोक लगाउने नियम ल्याएको विरोध स्वरुप किसानले गाइलाई डाइपर नै लगाइदिए । सरकारको नियमको खिल्ली उडाउँदै उनले गाइको मल जमिनमा र्झन नदिनका लागि गाइलाई डाइपर लगाइदिएको बताएका छन् ।
युरोपेली आयोगका प्रवक्ता स्टेफन सल्जले भने गाइवस्तुको चरिचरन नरोकिनेे स्पष्ट पारेको छ । ‘हाम्रो चासो गाइप्रति होइन किसानले गर्ने अत्यधिक मलखादको प्रयोग हो’ उनले भनेका छन् ।

विश्वमा ६ सय जनालाई मात्र लाग्ने रोग लागेकी १४ वर्षीया किशोरी, जसको सरीर ढुंगा बन्दै गएकेा छ

 विश्वमा जम्मा ६ सय जना मानिसमा मात्र यस्तो रोग छ । यो रोगलाई ‘ढुंगे मानिस लक्षण’ अर्थात् स्टोन म्यान सिन्ड्रोम भनिन्छ । चीनकी एक १४ वर्षीया किशोरी यहीँ दुर्लभ रोगको सिकार बनेकी छिन् र उनको सरीर क्रमशः ढुंगोजस्तै  बन्दै गएको छ ।
फाइब्रोप्लासिया ओसिफिक्यान्स प्रोग्रेसिफा भनिने उक्त रोगको शिकार बनेकी किशोरीको नाम हो नी मिन । उनको सरीरका मांशपेशीहरु विस्तारै हड्डी बन्दै गएका छन् । यो रोगको उपचार छैन र छातिको हड्डी चेँपिँदै गएपछि स्वास फेर्न नसकेर मानिसको अन्ततः मृत्यु हुन्छ ।
नी केा सरीर सुक्दै गएपछि र विभिन्न ठाउँमा अनौठा कडा थुप्रा देखिन थालेपछि उनले सांघाइको तोंगजी अस्पतालमा देखाएकी थिइन् । तर डाक्टरहरुले त्यो रोगको यकिन उपचार नभएपछि औषधिको प्रयोग गरी यसको असर कम गर्न सकिने बताएपछि  उनी र उनका परिवारमा केही आशा पलाएको छ ।
अहिले उनको अवस्था धेरै गम्भीर नरहेको र ६ महिनाका लागि परीक्षणका रुपमा उनलाई औषधि सिफारिस गरिएको डाक्टरको भनाइ छ । ६ महिनाको परीक्षणपछि उनलाई थप चिकित्सकीय पद्धतिबाट उपचार गरिनेछ ।

३ करोड प्रयोगकर्ता भएको ‘सेक्सी एप’माथि प्रतिबन्ध

आफ्नो एपलाई चर्चित बनाउनका लागि यौनसम्बन्धि अश्लील, अनैतिक तथा गलत समाचार दिने गरेको अभियोगमा चीनको एक चर्चित स्मार्टफोन एपमाथि प्रतिबन्ध लागेको छ ।

युवायुवतीलाई भेटघाट गर्नका लागि सजिलो बनाउने दाबी गरिएको उक्त एपमा विभिन्न खाले यौनिक तथा कामूक समाचारहरु दिने गरिएको थियो । जसमध्ये ‘भ्रमणका लागि सरीर’ शीर्षको एक समाचारमा एकजना युवतीले आफ्नो यौनिकताकै उपयोग गरी अस्थायी ब्वायप|mेण्ड बनाएर सित्तैमा देश भ्रमण गरेको उल्लेख गरिएको थियो । ती युवतीले युजिया एपमार्फत नै ती अस्थायी प्रेमी भेटेको दाबी गरिएको थियो ।

त्यस्तै २१ वर्षे युवक र १९ वर्षकी युवतीले आपतकालीन उद्धार पर्खिरहेको बेला सोही एपमार्फत भेटघाट भई यौन सम्बन्ध कायम गरेको स्टोरी समेत प्रकाशित गरिएको थियो ।

यी दुबै समाचार इन्टरनेटमा खुबै चर्चित बनेका थिए र चिनिया पत्रपत्रिकाले पनि प्रमुखताका साथ प्रकाशित गरेका थिए ।
त्यसपछि इन्टरनेट सम्बन्धि नियामक निकाय स्टेट इन्टरनेट सूचना कार्यालयको ध्यानाकर्षण भएको थियो । कार्यालयले उक्त एपलाई चर्चित बनाउनका लागि कम्पनीले गलत तथा अनैतिक खालका सामाग्री प्रकाशित गरेको र प्रबर्धनको सीमा नाघेको ठहर गरेको छ ।

एप निर्माता कम्पनीले गल्ती स्विकार गरी यो विषयलाई टुंगोमा पूराउने प्रतिबद्धता जनाएको छ ।
